Q: What is the Washington Canal Park?
A: The Washington Canal Park is currently an idea/vision conceived by
neighborhood stakeholders. The area which will become the Washington
Canal Park was once a portion of the historic canal planned and
illustrated by Pierre L'Enfant. This leg of the canal flowed from the
Anacostia River to the Capitol. The Washington Canal Park is intended
to be a beautiful green space in the heart of this changing neighborhood
where office-workers, residents, and visitors can enjoy a bit of
nature and respite.
Q: Where is the Washington Canal Park located?
A: The Washington Canal Park is located between "I" and "M" Streets and
2nd Street and 2nd Place, SE. This is just above the Washington Navy Yard
along the Anacostia river.
Q: Who is involved with the development of the Washington Canal Park?
A: Currently, the Canal Park Development Association is teamed with the DC
Office of Planning, the Deputy Mayor's Office of Planning and Economic
Development, the DC Department of Parks and Recreation and the contiguous landowners.
Q: Where can I find more information about the Design Competition?
A: The Canal Park Development Association will be updating the web page
periodically. Check the web page dedicated to the Design Competition first; if
you do not find what you seek, contact us at info@washingtoncanalpark.org and
we will respond.
Q: When will the project be completed?
A:The schedule is still being determined, yet we expect the Washington
Canal Park to be open to the public in 2006.
